The final tally

Leg Iron Books Posted on 26th March 2019 by Legiron26th March 2019

Twelve authors, twenty-one stories, twelve poems. 12/21/12. The eighth Underdog Anthology has ended up with something of the Mayan about it. Very appropriate to some of the stories even though none of them are about Mayans.

The stories range from the light-hearted to the very dark indeed. From the short, quick read to much longer tales.

All editing is complete, all author contracts have been sent out and most are already back. Some authors have already been paid, some have elected to be paid in copies of the book, a few still have cash coming their way. Book assembly has begun and the cover image is being processed. This book is on schedule for early April release.

The next anthology will be Halloween themed. Submissions will open in mid August.

Two days left

Leg Iron Books Posted on 23rd March 2019 by Legiron23rd March 2019

Submissions for the eighth Underdog Anthology, ‘Transgenre Dreams’, close at midnight on the 25th. Editing is up to date so any new ones can be dealt with quickly.

So far there are twenty stories and eleven poems by ten authors and work has begun on the cover. It’s on target for a first week of April release.

Here’s the raw image that will, after some manipulation and meddling, become the wraparound cover.

Author contracts for UA8

Leg Iron Books Posted on 20th March 2019 by Legiron20th March 2019

These have started going out. Please be patient if you don’t have yours yet – we’ve had more stories and poems submitted and are determined to keep up with editing.

The submissions deadline is midnight on March 25th and the stories keep coming. It’s therefore vital to stay ahead with the editing because there will only be a week or so after that before publication.

All contracts will be done, and all payments made (other than those who elect to be paid in copies of the book, of course), before Underdog Anthology 8 goes live – and that must happen in the first week of April.

There’s a lot more to do once this is finished.

Transgenre Dreams

Leg Iron Books Posted on 14th March 2019 by Legiron14th March 2019

Underdog Anthology 8 has a title. Riffed on the wide mix of genres it includes and the wonderfully mad music of Tangerine Dream, the genre-fluid Spring anthology will, this year, be titled ‘Transgenre Dreams’.

It will also contain a poetry section, the first real poetry published by Leg Iron Books. Hopefully one day there will be a dedicated poetry book.

All it needs now is a cover image.

Editing continues but the submissions are still open. There are so many we had to start editing early just to keep on track! Author contracts will start going out soon, and then assembly of the book will begin.

All author payments will be completed before publication.

The anthology grows

Leg Iron Books Posted on 13th March 2019 by Legiron13th March 2019

Underdog Anthology 8 now has nine authors and twelve stories, and the deadline is still over a week away.

For the first time, there will be a poetry section and as this is a non-genred volume the poems, like the stories, can touch on any topic. This anthology so far contains five poems by one of the authors. There is time, if you have the musical muse, to add to that section.

This could be the biggest anthology so far. The challenge now is to make the next one even bigger.

It’s on

Leg Iron Books Posted on 10th March 2019 by Legiron10th March 2019

Underdog Anthology 8 has, so far, eleven stories from seven authors and there is still time for more. Editing is under way and authors will start receiving editor suggestions and author contracts within a week.

This is the first one that will include, in the contract, the added republication of each story in an end of year omnibus edition and to that end, payment per story will increase from £10 to £12.

If the rest of this year’s anthologies get a similar response, that omnibus could turn out to be quite a thick book.

Spring is coming

Leg Iron Books Posted on 4th March 2019 by Legiron4th March 2019

Makes a pleasant change from ‘Winter is coming’, doesn’t it?

Well, the Spring Anthology (Underdog Anthology Eight) now has seven authors in it and there is time for more. As with all other anthologies, we have a new author to add to the list for this one. It’s become something of a tradition and let’s hope it continues.

Stories range from the humourous to the very, very dark this time. It will appear in print and eBook formats in the first week of April.

Payments time

Leg Iron Books Posted on 1st March 2019 by Legiron1st March 2019

For those authors on royalties, payments are now being calculated and will be out by the weekend.

The eighth Underdog Anthology has enough stories to be a definite ‘go’, and those author contracts will start going out as soon as the editing is done for each story. Payments will go out as soon as contracts are signed. There are still three weeks to the deadline and we always have room for more.

March is going to be busy, but in a good way.

Underdog Anthology 8: Now open

Leg Iron Books Posted on 17th February 2019 by Legiron26th March 2019

The eighth Underdog Anthology is open for submissions. Short stories of around 1000 – 2000 words (the size is not set in stone, the payments are negotiable if the story is very short).

No fixed genre or theme for this Spring anthology. It’s a free-for-all. Anything goes, within legal limits of course.

General submission guidelines are here. Specific Underdog Anthology guidelines are here.

Where to send them? The contact email is here.

Previous Spring anthologies are ‘Tales the Hollow Bunnies Tell‘ (number 2) and ‘Six in Five in Four‘ (number 5). You can click to look inside these on Amazon to get an idea of how this works.

The closing date for submissions is March 20th. Again, this can be flexible for a few days only, as long as you let us know it’s on the way. Publication will be in the first week of April so please do try to stick to that date.

Okay, let’s see what stories you have to tell…
