UA9: Well…
The Halloween anthology title is going to be based on wells. Water sources of any kind, but especially wells.
It’s not a requirement for submission, the only requirement is that the story be Halloween based or if not Halloween, a scary story that would suit a Halloween campfire tale. Perhaps confusingly, the stories do not have to be scary at all as long as they are fixed to Halloween. Yeah, we don’t do things the easy way here.
The reason for the ‘well’ addition? If you look at the forewords for ‘Treeskull stories’ (UA3) and ‘The Gallows Stone’ (UA6) you’ll see that the titles are based on the editor’s experiences with the house he lives in. This year there is something interesting about the water source for that house. It’s a remote farmhouse with no mains water and the well the water comes from has a very long history, back to the year 877.
What is it? He’ll tell you in the foreword to UA9.
Basically, stories based around well water, or any water source, will get top billing.
But all Halloween/scary stories are welcome, of course.
Quarterly payments
It’s time, once again, to send out royalty payments to authors on royalty contracts. It takes a day or so to convert all the different currencies and account for the different VAT rates on eBooks in European countries, but payments should all be done by Monday.
It’s good to see that none of the authors are stuck with zero sales this quarter. That’s always encouraging.
UA9: The 2019 Halloween Anthology
Halloween anthology submissions will start August 20th and close September 30th. Start thinking dark thoughts…
27 and counting…
Since that first Underdog Anthology in December 2016, Leg Iron Books has amassed a catalogue of 27 books so far, with more going through the process even now. I think we’re making progress here.
Updates
The Submissions, Novels and Anthology guidelines have been updated. For the better, naturally.
Working…
Transgenre Dreams has finally been added to the site, under Underdog Anthologies in the top menu, with crosslinks to the author pages. Took a while, there were a lot of links this time! Still, it’s done.
We have several novels in the editing process, another due soon and a potential science-based book (real, not SF, but likely to be entertaining) on the way. For those hoping for some SF, that’s on the way too.
Who would have thought a tiny operation could take off so fast? It started in a tiny flat with one man and an idea for an Underdog Anthology. Just three years ago.
It’s still a tiny operation but it’s expanding. Watch us go!
Almost done
Transgenre Dreams is finished. Authors who elected to be paid in cash have been paid, and books are packaged and ready to send tomorrow for those who elected to be paid in copies of the book.
This one can be put to bed – unless there are any after-publication slips to fix, but even that poses no problem these days.
The next anthology will be for Halloween. Stories should be themed at Halloween but don’t need to be scary. They must have Halloween as an essential part of the story, unless of course they are traditional Halloween style scary stories. Submissions open in September.
Poetry will be accepted as long as it fits the theme.
Meanwhile, there are more novels…
Transgenre Dreams
The print version is now live and the ebook has passed Smashwords verification. Print copies for those authors who elected to be paid in books will soon be here and will be distributed next week.
All that remains is to wait for the Amazon print and kindle listings to combine, and that’s in Amazon’s hands.
It’s done.
Publication day. At last.
This has been quite a big job, but it’s (nearly) over. The Kindle version of Transgenre Dreams is in the process of going live and the Smashwords version is already live.
As long as there are no problems, the print version should appear in a day or two.
Then it’s just a matter of getting through Smashwords’ tortuous approval process for multi-author books, so that it can get much wider distribution.
On to the next!
