The Submissions, Novels and Anthology guidelines have been updated. For the better, naturally.
Working…
Transgenre Dreams has finally been added to the site, under Underdog Anthologies in the top menu, with crosslinks to the author pages. Took a while, there were a lot of links this time! Still, it’s done.
We have several novels in the editing process, another due soon and a potential science-based book (real, not SF, but likely to be entertaining) on the way. For those hoping for some SF, that’s on the way too.
Who would have thought a tiny operation could take off so fast? It started in a tiny flat with one man and an idea for an Underdog Anthology. Just three years ago.
It’s still a tiny operation but it’s expanding. Watch us go!
Almost done
Transgenre Dreams is finished. Authors who elected to be paid in cash have been paid, and books are packaged and ready to send tomorrow for those who elected to be paid in copies of the book.
This one can be put to bed – unless there are any after-publication slips to fix, but even that poses no problem these days.
The next anthology will be for Halloween. Stories should be themed at Halloween but don’t need to be scary. They must have Halloween as an essential part of the story, unless of course they are traditional Halloween style scary stories. Submissions open in September.
Poetry will be accepted as long as it fits the theme.
Meanwhile, there are more novels…
Transgenre Dreams
The print version is now live and the ebook has passed Smashwords verification. Print copies for those authors who elected to be paid in books will soon be here and will be distributed next week.
All that remains is to wait for the Amazon print and kindle listings to combine, and that’s in Amazon’s hands.
It’s done.
Publication day. At last.
This has been quite a big job, but it’s (nearly) over. The Kindle version of Transgenre Dreams is in the process of going live and the Smashwords version is already live.
As long as there are no problems, the print version should appear in a day or two.
Then it’s just a matter of getting through Smashwords’ tortuous approval process for multi-author books, so that it can get much wider distribution.
On to the next!
One more…
The cover is done. All that remains is to hear from one author on his final comments and corrections, and it’s good to go.

Dilemma
Still waiting for two authors to respond with final corrections (if they find any) but with the rest of the book completed, it’s time to tackle the hardest part of all.
When you have 12 authors presenting 22 stories and 12 poems in a very wide range of genres (seriously, some authors write in more than one!)…
…what do you write on the back of the book?

On target
Yesterday, every author in the new anthology received a PDF file of the whole book for final checks.
Within 24 hours, ten of the twelve authors have responded. Only two to go. All corrections/adjustments are up to date.
It is increasingly likely that this book will be completed and on sale in a matter of days.
After that, there are novels to deal with.
The final final tally
There is one more story for Anthology Eight, a reprint of an old one. It’s now 22 stories and that’s it – it’s already hitting the 200 page mark and even with only pennies of profit it could get pricey. The price, as with all Underdog Anthologies, will be kept to the minimum, but print costs and Amazon profit will still be in there. The eBook versions can be a lot cheaper.
Assembly is progressing. All author contracts are now in and all that remains is to pass around a PDF of the finished book for authors’ final approval. This will happen over the weekend. Once all authors are happy, it goes to print. It should be online within a week.
The final tally
Twelve authors, twenty-one stories, twelve poems. 12/21/12. The eighth Underdog Anthology has ended up with something of the Mayan about it. Very appropriate to some of the stories even though none of them are about Mayans.
The stories range from the light-hearted to the very dark indeed. From the short, quick read to much longer tales.
All editing is complete, all author contracts have been sent out and most are already back. Some authors have already been paid, some have elected to be paid in copies of the book, a few still have cash coming their way. Book assembly has begun and the cover image is being processed. This book is on schedule for early April release.
The next anthology will be Halloween themed. Submissions will open in mid August.
